Reggio Emilia Approach at crest peak learning center
As a Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool, Crest Peak Learning Center embraces the principles of the Reggio Emilia Approach while adapting them to the context of early childhood education.
Here are the key principles of Reggio Emilia Approach that we implement:
Child-Centered Learning: Children are seen as active participants in their learning journey, capable of constructing their knowledge through hands-on experiences and interactions with their environment.
The Role of the Teacher: Teachers in the Reggio Emilia approach serve as guides and collaborators, rather than authority figures. They observe, listen, and facilitate learning experiences based on children's interests and inquiries.
The Hundred Languages of Children: This concept, borrowed from educator Loris Malaguzzi, emphasizes the importance of creative expression and communication through various mediums, including art, music, movement, and language.
The Environment as the Third Teacher: Classrooms in Reggio Emilia-inspired schools are carefully designed to provoke curiosity, exploration, and collaboration. Natural light, open spaces and thoughtfully crafted materials invite children to engage in meaningful learning experiences.
Documentation: Teachers and students engage in ongoing documentation of the learning process, including photographs, videos, and written reflections. This documentation serves as a tool for reflection, assessment, and communication with parents and the community.
Project-Based Learning: Children engage in long-term, in-depth investigations of topics that emerge from their interests and questions. These projects encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Ateliers and Studio Spaces: Dedicated art and exploration areas, known as ateliers or studios, provide children with opportunities to express themselves creatively and experiment with different materials and techniques.
Community Involvement: Parents, community members, and local resources are often integrated into the learning process, enriching children's experiences and fostering a sense of connection to the world around them.
